23/03/07: Changes to next years series!!
There will be some changes to next years series to try and boost participation and make the series
more dynamic and enjoyable for everyone who gets involved. Next year the universities will be
split into divisions dependent on how they have done over the last couple of years in the series.
The idea with this is to give some of the smaller teams a chance to compete with other universities of
a similar size. At the moment it is very hard for some of the smaller teams to compete with the likes
of Loughborough and Birmingham etc, hopefully this should encourage more teams to get involved
and make the races even more competitive.
As a result of this I will also be scrapping the B team tables which now seem quite pointless. The
only universities who are able to get second and third teams out are the larger universities and they
all tend to feature well in the A team tables. I'm not sure anyone really takes any notice of them
anyway.
I will soon be deciding on which teams go in which divisions and will post on here, so if anyone
doesn't agree with my decisions then i can shuffle things around.
I do also hope to intriduce a better messageboard than the one i had on here a couple of months ago.
Unfortunately it was subject to a lot of spamming so i got rid of it. I will hopefully get round to
replacing it in the coming months.
If anybody has any other suggestions then send me an email on

22/09/06: Manchester Relays Details
The University of Manchester Athletics and Cross Country Club are proud to invite you to the
40th running of the Manchester Relays. As the race enters its 40th year there is a break from
tradition that we hope will breath new life into the event; the course has moved from Wythenshawe
Park, to the brand new multi-million pound facilities at The University Playing Fields,
Wythenshawe. If you’ve competed before you’ll know the new venue as it has held our registration,
prize giving and showers in previous years. The new course will be completely grass and mud, so
bring your spikes! The course is of a similar length to the previous course, which was 2.1 miles
long, though the exact distance is to be confirmed in the near future.
As ever the race will take a familiar format, 6 runners in each men’s team and 3 runners in each
women’s team, with racing starting at 2pm, with the women following at 2.15pm. Men’s teams cost
£20, women’s teams cost £12 to pre-enter, prices rise to £25 and £15 respectively for entries on
the day, so get your entries in before the 1st of October deadline!
As well as the usual extensive prize list we intend to introduce perpetual trophies for the
winning teams and fastest athletes on the day.
